Boulder Urban Renewal Authority (BURA) applications open through January 25

City of Boulder

The deadline to apply for Boulder’s Urban Renewal Authority is approaching — January 25, 2026.

The Boulder Urban Renewal Authority (BURA) helps facilitate targeted investment and revitalization efforts to support a healthy and sustainable economy. BURA activities include:

  • Reviewing urban renewal studies and proposed urban renewal areas, plans, and projects
  • Making recommendations about the use of urban renewal tools such as tax increment financing (TIF) to support redevelopment

BURA meetings are scheduled as needed and may be virtual or in-person. BURA commissioners receive a free Eco Pass.

BURA commissioners are required to be 18 or older. While both residents and non-residents may serve on the authority, non-residents should own or manage commercial property, own or operate a business, or work in Boulder.

BURA is expanding in 2026 and has 10 open seats for commissioners appointed by Boulder’s mayor and approved by City Council. Three additional commissioners representing local taxing entities will also serve on BURA. Although most BURA commissioners serve five-year terms, those filling four of the new seats will be appointed for 1- to 4-year terms.

Timeline

  • Applications open from December 8 to January 25, 2026
  • Virtual Interviews scheduled from February 2 to 13, 2026
  • BURA appointments will be made on March 5, 2026
