Local business leaders will gain insight on critical economic trends and developments in the Boulder region at the Boulder Chamber and Boulder Economic Council’s 2020 Economic Forecast: Boulder and Beyond, slated for January 30, 2020. The event will feature presentations from nationally recognized economists, the most up-to-date economic statistics and trends for the Boulder area, and the release of the Boulder Innovation Venture 2.0 report.
Dr. Richard Wobbekind, Executive Director of the CU Boulder Leeds Business Research Division, will provide the keynote address for the Economic Forecast. The address will focus on current and developing economic trends affecting businesses in the Boulder area.
“We’re forecasting job growth in 2020 but at a slower rate than in 2019,” said Dr. Wobbekind. “We believe Colorado will be a top 10 growth state in 2020, but you have to pay a little more attention when the growth rate slows down.”
Other highly anticipated speakers returning to the Economic Forecast include State Demographer Elizabeth Garner; Brian Lewandowski, Associate Director of the CU Boulder Leeds Business Research Division; and Clif Harald, Executive Director of the Boulder Economic Council. Garner will open the evening’s presentations with the demographic outlook for Boulder County, providing local business leaders with a critical snapshot of population trends. Lewandowski and Harald will close the event with the release of the Boulder Innovation Venture 2.0 report, an update of the original Boulder Innovation Venture launched in 2018.
The updated Innovation Venture report has been expanded to compare the demographic and economic metrics of Boulder to both popularly identified innovation communities, such as San Jose, CA, and cities considered to be peers of Boulder, such as Ann Arbor, MI. These comparisons outline the cultural, economic, and demographic elements that are common among innovation communities while providing a data-based perspective on where Boulder fits into the national conversation as a true center of innovation.
