Local school districts seek industry support via mentorships

St. Vrain Valley Schools

Colorado’s Opportunity Now Grant Funds $7M Investment in Career Pathways for St. Vrain Valley Schools and Collaborating Districts. As the initiative’s largest grantee, the Breakthrough Pathways project will implement three comprehensive career pathways in education, advanced manufacturing, and information technology. Currently, St. Vrain is in the process of building a base of mentors dedicated to information technology and computer science via Opportunity CLIMB. 

Opportunity CLIMB connects every student in its program with an industry mentor, providing a personal champion to guide and support them on their path to career success. This is your chance to be that champion and make a profound impact in shaping a student’s future.

Mentor Eligibility

  • Recommended at least 2 years of work experience, preferably in the IT sector.
  • Be able to commit to at least 1 semester (4 months)
  • Two hours per month with biweekly email correspondence
  • Demonstrate a desire to participate in the program and abide by the program’s guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Pass a criminal background check.

Professionals interested in supporting this program should complete the ‘Mentor Interest Form’. Students and professionals are scheduled to be paired up in mid-January.

The Boulder Valley School District has made a commitment to establishing a Work-Based Learning program that will allow students many opportunities throughout their K-12 education to learn ABOUT work, learn THROUGH work, and learn AT work. While we are establishing the BVSD Work-Based Learning model, and system-wide improvements to connect career and college to K-12 academics, there are already some excellent opportunities being offered throughout the district; however, our programs require industry support to ensure relevance and appropriate standards.

Below is a brief questionnaire to collect information from potential business partners to see how you are willing/able/interested in supporting our educational programs. Information collected in this survey may be used by District level staff in sending out partnership need requests, or individual programs/teachers in an effort to request support in the specific classes/programs.
